Shoulder Recovery with
ManaRay Red Light and Near-Infrared
When it comes to the shoulder, red light therapy (RLT) is particularly effective because the shoulder joint is complex, relatively shallow, and prone to significant stiffness (like "frozen shoulder") after surgery.
While the general benefits of cellular energy (ATP) still apply, here is how RLT specifically targets shoulder recovery:
1. Reaching the Deep Tissues
Shoulder surgeries—like rotator cuff repairs, labrum fixes, or replacements—involve deep tendons and ligaments.
-
Near-Infrared (NIR) Advantage: While "Red" light helps the skin incision, "Near-Infrared" light (usually 810nm–850nm) can penetrate several centimeters deep into the joint capsule and tendons where the actual repair was done.
-
Increased Blood Flow: The shoulder has areas with naturally poor blood supply (like the "critical zone" of the rotator cuff). RLT promotes angiogenesis (the formation of new capillaries), bringing much-needed oxygen to these "dead zones."
2. Fighting "Post-Op Frozen Shoulder"
One of the biggest hurdles in shoulder recovery is capsulitis or extreme stiffness.
-
Reduced Myofascial Tension: RLT helps relax the guarded muscles around the shoulder (traps, deltoids, and pecs) that often seize up due to pain.
-
Joint Lubrication: By reducing inflammation in the synovial fluid (the joint’s "oil"), it can help you progress through your Physical Therapy (PT) exercises with less resistance and pain.
3. Synergistic Effect with Physical Therapy
Studies show that using RLT immediately before or after PT can be a "force multiplier."
-
Pre-PT: Using the light before exercises can warm up the tissue and increase range of motion, making the session more productive.
-
Post-PT: Using it after can reduce the "rebound" inflammation and delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) that often follows a difficult therapy session.
Indications for Use
The ManaRay device is intended to emit energy in the near-infrared and visible red spectrum at wavelengths of 660nm,
850nm, and 940nm to provide topical heating for the purpose of elevating tissue temperature for the relief of muscle
and join pain, stiffness, arthritis pain, and muscle spasm; this increases local blood circulation, healing, and pain relief.
Product Description
The ManaRay device is a wearable LED-based system with adjustable hook and loop straps designed to deliver red and near-infrared light therapy. The device is powered by a built-in lithium-ion battery and is designed for short-duration therapy sessions at home or on-the-go. The ManaRay has a built in timer for easy use.
